After over 30 years in the vault, Florence Ballard's only solo album was finally issued in CD form in 2001.
"THE SUPREME FLORENCE BALLARD: 18 ESSENTIAL ORIGINAL RECORDINGS": In March of 1968, Florence Ballard-Chapman signed a recording deal with ABC Records and, with her new husband Tommy Chapman as her manager, began recording several tracks for what was to be her first solo album. The studio project saw several producers, including Robert Bateman, George Kerr, Marc Gordon, and Hal Davis. At the time, the album was to be entitled "You Don't Have To." From those sessions, both "Love Ain't Love" and "It Doesn't Matter How I Say It (It's What I Say That Matters)" were issued as singles. Unfortunately, neither single charted and the album was ultimately shelved.
33 Years later, the album was released from the Polygram U.K. issued the album in its entirely in compact disc form and under the title "The Supreme Florence Ballard: 18 Essential Original Recordings." Several bonus tracks, from Florence Ballard's days as a member of The Supremes are also featured, including "Buttered Popcorn," which holds the distinction of being The Supremes' only single to feature Florence Ballard on lead vocals.
